Founded in 2007, Green Marine is a voluntary environmental certification program encouraging maritime enterprises to adopt measurable concrete actions that go beyond regulatory obligations.
Green Marine is a rigorous, transparent and inclusive program that targets prioritized environmental issues such as greenhouse gases, community impacts, and water and land pollution. To date, more than 175 ship owners, ports, terminals, shipyards and Seaway corporations in Canada and the United States participate in the program.
To receive their certification, participants must assess their environmental performance annually, submit to an external verification, agree to publish their individual results, and commit to a process of continual improvement.
